Toothache associated with swollen gums is not only caused by tooth decay. Sometimes it can also be caused by another health problem like heart attack, cluster headache, sinus infections which can cause a pain in the teeth or jaw of an individual. Viral infection such as shingles, diabetes disease and nerve-related disease can also cause tooth ache and swollen gums. Likewise, drug and alcohol abuse and vitamin deficiencies can also cause swollen gums and toothache. Gum problems and pain in the tooth should be referred to the dentist as soon as possible, to get rid of the true cause of the condition and get rid of pain which can hinder one from performing daily tasks and routines.
